r
advance for two hour time blocks. Where is no limit on the number of
reservations a person can make for the study rooms, and we have always
differentiated the study rooms from the meeting rooms. While we ask patrons
about the nature of a meeting that will take place in one of the large-m etin
rooms, we do not ask patrons the nature of their business when booking a study
room. The study rooms can hold a maximum of four people, and we have never
held that this constitutes a meeting, which.must be open to the public or comply
with meeting room policy..
Undoubtedly, patrons do reserve those rooms to meet with professionals whom
they have-hired to provide a service. Staff members are informally aware that
patrons have reserved ved study rooms to meet with an out of town accountant or
attorney they have retained.While-the professional in question will ultimately
bill the patron for services, we have never tried to regulate this activity, and don't
know how common it may be.
Another variation on this type ofrequest comes from parents who are
homeschooling their children themselves and have asked to use the Program
Room in the Children's Room to hold their homeschooling boob discussions or
group discussions for their children. In these instances, more than one family is
participating, but the parents are leading the groups and no fees are being
charged.
Janet Burke and I have discussed the numerous requests thate have suddenly
received. We would both like to gee the Library work with and support
ho esc ooling families. In all cases the parents have expressed a need for these
opportunity group gatherings to provide the children nth an opt y f r interaction and,
socialization with peers.
I have conducted some preliminary research on tutoring policies at other
libraries, and they vary greatly. I would like to request Borne feedback before
drafting a tutoring policy and/or making any proposed changes to the Meeting
Room policy.
