4
Bos Administrative Meeting
May 2 , 1981
Page
the Board wished to have Chief Willis ' reappointment come up at the
same time as his salary discussion hm. Garland suggested the
Board just appoint the Police Chief tomorrow, and let the rest of
the appointments wait awhile. He directed the Executive Secretary
to talk to the Fire Chief; the Board will meet' with him later t6 dis
cuss this.
: 14) el. Thomas brought up the subject of- the Dog officer, Jim Ames' ,
physical ability to be performing he duties of his office . she
would like to have the Town Physician testif ' s to his physical corp
dition, and if he is physically able to be doing what is cabled for
in the performance of his duties. Chm. . Garland stated h has had
some - concerns in this regard, also - particularly when he hears the
Dog Officer report that he has chased an animal 'through the woods.
The Executive Secretary will check with the Personnel. Board about
getting such a physical 'report.
1 The members of the Board asked the Executi-ve secretary to check on
the status of the Aitchinson case with Town Counsel.
1 sel. Thomas asked what is happening with the two previously. authorized
appointments to the Police Department. The Executive Secretary stated
the new test will be given on Saturday; the last one had been co tpro-
ised.
1 Chin. Garland' expressed his concern over problems ' that have re:centl*y
..been brought to his attention relative to Channel 9 . the Crime watch
Channel=. Apparently there is a great Ileal of interference taking *.
place on that channel - apparently it is being abused. Often loud
music can be heard, and at tines quite a bit of foreign language --
which is doubtless being - picked up from boats. He would suggest blank--`:,I.
ing out the Channel_ number on the Crime Watch signs, Exec.utiveSec-
retary believes it -would be a good idea to bring it up .at 'a regular
meeting, so it will be reported and the citizens will know the reason
for the action by the Board.
1 Chin. Garland reported his concern with some of the problems- being.
caused by alarm systems in town, which are proving very costly to
the town. one of the greatest offenders at present is the New Seabury
Tennis Club, which has had numerous false alarms recently. Some
systems are - just too sensitive, he believes. Chat. Garland wonders if
we would not be justified in charging to respond to false alarms,
after allowing perhaps 3. These responses -are costly- to the Town
a especially when the vehicles have to go all the way down to the tennis
r
club. He suggested the Executive Secretary tally to the Chiefs about
this matter, and get their input into the . uestion of charging.
19 The Executive s-eeretay reported that- Brushrealer #2 'is clue back to-
day. Apparently the delay was caused by the difficulty in getting
parts, Brushbreaker '#1 was out for the first time over the week-end,
and suffered some damage. Some of the exposed wires were torn lose.
Mr. Murphy reported we will be getting a checklist of the deficiencies
_ in the repair work with a day or two. The txecutive Secretary won-
dered if it would be a good idea for the County to hire a Fire Engine
Mechanic to be shared by those towns on the Cape who do not have their
own mechanics. ' They could share his services and share the costs.
