' The deadline for the submission of Articles <br /> Ir <br /> would be next Monday, June Lir t. Then the selectmen could sign <br /> the Warrant on June 3. The Exec. Secretary is reluctant to wait <br /> any longer than that - to try to hold a Special on the 29th would <br /> make it too chose to the ]gig holiday, By the time of the scheduled <br /> meeting, we would know which were the problem accounts and could <br /> deal with them then; Chm. Garland felt this would provide real re- <br /> li-ef for the Finance Committee, which always faces so many difficult <br /> decisions at -their meeting just before the- close of the Fiscal year. <br /> hm. Garland concluded that he would recommend- that we shoot for the <br /> 22nd, at : 00 here in the Town- Fall. Mr. Murphy will get the legal <br /> notice into the papers by Friday. <br /> 11 el. Thomas asked about the typewriter money .- it appears not suf- <br /> ficient monies were approved at Town Meeting, .Nafter all. Executive <br /> Secretary stated he had ordered one to come out of next year' s budget. <br /> el. Thomas stated she would rattier-v, o to Town Meeting and fight for <br /> one i.n- a special article. <br /> 12 Jean Thomas brought up the question of !'Recognition" , and how the <br /> Board of Selectmen should Ileal with it. Perhaps we should came out <br /> with some sort of statement prior to the actual event, to prepare the <br /> eo <br /> le -of the To . xecut ive Secretary 'recommended that before this <br /> Board make any kind of statement, they should talk to the title in <br /> surance <br /> nsurance companies, as su ge-sted. '.-k-former, Selectmen Benway,. He also <br /> urged the Board to sit down and discuss the ramifications of the <br /> matter- with Town Counsel, before they tike any action. He asked if <br /> we actually know when this will happen, No one seemed to know for <br /> sure. But all present felt it was the responsibility of this Board <br /> to attempt to, head off fear and panic on the part of the townspeople. <br /> However, Chin. Garland stated he is confident there are many people <br /> who really have very little concern about the matter. Sel Thous <br /> -stated she felt the issue of the Museum is being used as a tool and <br /> weapon in the whole thine-. Chm. Garland said he felt the recent <br /> actions of the Historic Commission, and their plans for the Museum, <br /> will be most beneficial to the Town in this respect. <br /> l Selectman Thomas questioned the Fire Chief' s salary, and asked if <br /> a final decision has been arrived at regarding what he will receive <br /> after July 1 The Finance Committee had recommended the same 7% , in- <br /> crease that other town employees were receiving -- bringing his pay <br /> to $21, 532. But by his individual action on Town Meeting floor, the <br /> Chief had gotten approval for a base Pay of $22 ,500. His E.M.T. in- <br /> crement of $1, 500 - is on top of these base arnounts. The Executive <br /> Secretary stated he doesn' t lite seeing a precedent set of allowing <br /> department heads to go. on Town Meeting floor to get their salaries <br /> set, sel. Thomas -suggested perhaps the question of the Fire Chief' s <br /> salary should go on the Agenda, and- perhaps it would be advisable <br /> for the Executive secretary to contact Kevin O' Connell before the <br /> meeting to go. over the events with him. Chm. Garland stated he <br /> sloes not like discussion of the E.M.T. factor influencing the salary <br /> discussions. In effect, the Chief is wearing two different hats. hm, <br /> Garland stated that the Chief doesn' t feel he has time enough to devote <br /> to get his E.M. T. recertification.
