To date we have geographically
canvassed our state with Light public hearings. At each
of these locations , there was overwhelming support for
the veterans Outreach program and recommendations for
its expansion. This was particularly the -case in the town
of Hyannis. That is , the time and expense of travel to
V.A. facilities in Rhode Island , Boston, and/or Brockton
is very prohibitive for the 15 , 000 Vietnam veterans residing
in the Cape Cod area . The traveling satellite team which
serviced the veterans on the Cape this past summer was very
well received. Fri fact at. tfie Hyannis hearing the veterans
there specifically asked that the Commission write you
requesting that a permanent outreach center be located
there.
Seftat-oValsh remarked that the Commission should
place this request in the form of a motion; it was so moved ,
and I was instructed to draft a letter to that effect. In
behalf of the Vietnam veterans of Barnstable County, the
Conunonwealth of Massachusetts ' Special Commission on the
Concerns of Vietnam Veterans is respectfully requesting
that your office establish a full-time Outreach center in
Barnstable County (Cape Coal Massachusetts .
