He said that dragging eats up their home, <br /> food and a.variety of ether things. He said it creates problems-as it tears up the <br /> bottom. He suggested that no dragging be allowed in any Mashpee estuary and that it only <br /> be allowed in the stain channels of the Popponesset and Waquoit Bays. <br /> Deference was made to item #13 of the regulations -- "Limit -- commercial permit, 5 bushels <br /> per day. Family permit, bushes per day not to exceed 1 bushes per week" He said that <br /> there is not a lot out there and the regulations should reflect that. <br /> Dick Terry asked about seeding? Mr. O'Malley-Keyes referred to page 4 of his report. He <br /> said that their shellf fishing program does not have an active seeding program. They would <br /> not be doing any seeding this fall because going into the winter season has a high mortality <br /> rate. He said that he plates to do some seeding next spring,. Dick Terry said that he ap- <br /> .preci ated his report and the time that he put into i t. <br /> Chairman Hanson commented that it is not a good condition and that he has the feeling that <br /> he is a step away from saying . "No She l l fi shing" and that he is trying to find a happy <br /> medium. He said that the Board-of Selectmen are not too happy about the condition them- <br /> selves. Nor. O'Malley-Keyes said that most of the true professional commercial people have <br /> more concern for the citizens of the town and have greater appreciation for the quality <br /> and availability of the shellfish. <br /> Mr. O'Malley-Keyes said that the process is very unregulated and because of that, it is <br /> Fusing problems. He said that he does not like heavy regulations, but that h sees it as <br /> ay to look at the quality of the water and shellfish and to attack) each section accord- <br /> g to priority. <br /> Chairman Hanson. asked what sort of a time frame he was looking for so that he would have time <br /> to advertise'?, Mr. O'Malley-Keyes replied "tomorrow". Jean Thomas said that it should be <br /> posted in the paper for two weeks. Dick Terry moved to adopt the regulations that Mr. O'Malley- <br /> Keyes has suggested for the 1984-85 scalloping season. Jean Thomas seconded the motion. All <br /> in favor. Advertisement will be made in both the Cape Cod Times and the Falmouth Enterprise. <br /> Letter From Marine Fisheries - re: Mashpee River <br /> The Board re ie. ed a letter from the Division 'of Marine- Fisheries dated August 28 giving notice <br /> that the DF( F has examined the waters of the Mashpee liver and dine to high levels of bacteria, <br /> they have classified the area as prohibited. Jean Thomas commented that since this is the <br /> third letter the Board has received that assistance should be sought in finding out where the <br /> faulty systems are coming from. <br /> Mr. O'Malley-Keyes said that he received a call from a Mr. Hoif elder, who is associated with <br /> the B" rnstable County Board of Health. Mr. Hoifelder~ has offered his help in assisting the <br /> i <br /> town. Jean Thomas said that the town is involved in�a condition which is being investigated <br /> by the Board6 of Health'with regard to .the landfill and now we are faced with another~ problem. <br /> She said that the town could use all ,the help they could 'get. Dick Terry agreed that efforts <br /> should be coordinated. Will Hanson suggested touching base with-the Board of Health to get <br /> their progress report. Discussion continued about the shellfish pollution. <br /> N <br /> quest for Appointment of Temporary Dispatcher <br /> Board reviewed a request from Chief Frye dated September 4 requesting -that Marilyn 1asche <br /> appointed as a temporary dispatcher due to the resigna-Eion of Leo Perry. Jean Thomas <br /> moved to appoint Marilyn lasche as temporary dispatcher. Dick Terry seconded the motion. All <br /> in favor. <br />
