v y <br /> Board of Selectmen 'age Four <br /> Regular Meeting <br /> Wednesday, June lo, 1987 <br /> Mrs Costa said that he would begin gathering prices from licensed <br /> collectors for pick-up of restricted refuse and prices for the <br /> provision of legally acceptable storage areas -or containers at the <br /> landfill where materials can be temporarily stored prior to pick-up. <br /> He will then be coming before# the Board of selectmen requesting the <br /> necessary funding for these pick-up and storage processes , Nor. <br /> Buckingham pointed out that the Finance Committee has repeatedly <br /> denied any -.request for these, necessary additional monies because <br /> of the Towns .precarious financial situation. <br /> In the interim, lir. Lawrence suggested that the Board of Health <br /> give notice to the Townspeople the locations of legal dumping sites <br /> for {these restricted materials . lir. Costa stated that this is <br /> already being done ; however, most of these sites or refuse collectors <br /> are some distance off ape and highly inconvenient for local people . <br /> Mr. Costa also allowed that if the Department of Public Works collects <br /> materials rials deposited along the various roadsides , such refuse will be <br /> accepted at the dump, Mrs Murphy stated that written communications <br /> have been forwarded to the Board of Health on several occasions re- <br /> questing some response as to whether or not the DPW can bring road- <br /> side trash to the dump. He said that no response has been given. <br /> The Chairwoman requested that the Board of Health confirm in writi.n <br /> . cost statement that the DPW may dump roadside trash collections <br /> picked up by that Department. <br /> Mr. Sid Stern spoke about the deplorable dump3-ng/trash- situation in <br /> the area in which he resides , Great Oak Road, He tor; ed conditions <br /> as being "filthy" . His statements appeared to confirm Nor. Buckingham's <br /> allegations that garbage , hazardous wastes , etc . are quite often the <br /> apparent action of persons who "simply don't care and wouldn' t go to <br /> the dump in any instance" * <br /> The Chairwoman referred to recommendations included in the memo- <br /> randum from the Executive Secretary regarding two litter-related <br /> articles for inclusion on the warrant of the July 27 Special Town <br /> Meeting. Mr. Murphy explained that it is recommended to a m nd the <br /> Town'sBy-law relative to littering and penalties and make these <br /> penalties subie tto provisions of Chapter 40, Section 21D of the <br /> General Laws . This non-criminal disposition is a, method used by <br /> law enf orc ement agencies in the Town -r]",ght now to enforce va.ri us <br /> Town By-Maws . Mr Gottlieb moved that the two - a-rticles to amend <br /> the By-laws relative to littering and the ion-criminal disposition <br /> of violators be included on the warrant for the Special Town Meeting <br /> to be held on July 27 , 1987.
