MASHPEE AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE MINUTES
DECEMBER 7, 2004
Present: Deborah Battles, Zella Elizenberty, Jamie Regan, Alice Lopez,, Eric Smith, Louise Patrick, and
Trudi Ide.
Absent: John Cahalan.
Audience: Mark V. Lopez, Megan DeAlmeida, Diane Vendetti (Housing Land Trust), and Patricia Fiero
(HAC... Housing Assistance Corporation).
Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m. Zella began the meeting by asking all in attendance to please
introduce themselves, including Committee members. Following the introductions, Mark Lopez
commented that he and his daughter, Megan, were at this meeting because they're interested in affordable
housing. In particular, Mr. Lopez said he is interested in getting his 2 daughters into housing and wants to
know how they can go about it.
Approval of Minutes... Jaime motioned to accept the minutes of November 9, 2004; Deborah seconded the
motion; and the motion was carried.
Monthly Report from Deborah... Deborah reported that due to reduction in federal funds, Section S
freeze and budget cuts, the Housing Authority has to reduce its budget by $10,000; therefore, they're losing
a parttime worker. Leila's hours have been cut and her assistant is being cut now also. They'll probably
be looking for volunteer workers for support.
Draft Budget ... Eric, Zella, and John Cahalane met last week and prepared a draft budget, which was
distributed to the Committee for review. A copy is attached to the printed set of these minutes. Some of
the issues discussed:
Outreach expense would be used towards brochure, promotional and educational materials, and
minimum mileage reimbursement when traveling to free seminars that are a distance away.
Stationery expense would include providing letterhead with logo.
Following review and discussion, consensus was that the proposed budget was very good, but should be
increased to $1500.
Major Activities of the Previous Fiscal Year... Completed Affordable Housing Plan Survey; it was
approved by Board of Selectmen; and has been forwarded to Town Counsel.
