Page 6
includes high-density areas widely separated by open space or low density development.A number of
decentralized, small-scale denitrifying treatment technologies are available to accommodate flows from small
communities, neighborhoods, business districts,so on so forth. Compared to individual on-site denitrifying
systems, the cost of STEP systems with cluster treatment plants can be significantly lower, along with space
needs and on-site maintenance requirements and costs.
This approach allows development of denitrifying systems in critical areas in small increments,
involving smaller amounts of up-front capital costs. No other collection system or treatment system
technology allows such an incremental approach without unbalanced costs to initial users. More detailed
discussion, specific to each service area follows:
Back Road Site Collection Area
The Back Road service area is an established neighborhood of approximately 438 existing homes. There is no
apparent commercial property. The service area is located adjacent to two small lakes with a topography that
varies about 40'and with a general slope towards the lakes. Lots appear to be in the range of 1/4 acre and
vegetation appears to be very established. An aerial of the area is show below:
I Gent.
436311 0,2011 iutops PTechnologie% 2009GOOSIC
,.
Treatment capacity does not exist at this time but could be provided in the northeast region of the service area.
All wastewater would be conveyed uphill to reach the proposed treatment area. The longest pumping distance
would be approximately one mile.
We would anticpate that this area could easily be serviced with a STEP collection system. We would not require
list stations as all STEP system would eaily pump directly to the point of treatment. Additionally, the STEP units
could also pump to treatment located in the Heritage Park of Southport service area if it was advantageous to do
SO.
Heritage Park Site Collection Area
The Heritage Park service area is an established area that includes a mix of residential, commercial, industrial
and recreational property. It is located adjacent to a small lake with a topography that varies about 60' and with a
general slope towards the lakes. An aerial of the area is show below:
