Taffin of
P. BOX 1108
F, MASHPEE, MA 02649
PLAININING BOARD MINUTES : 4/17/85 P. 9
when they came in here there was discussion on the one hand we said
that they should have a buffer of some -type of vegetation and they made
-the argument that they wanted people to be able to see them from the
road . We may have gone a little too far on that one . Design Review
has been getting tougher and tougher.
Mr . lAarsters : I think each one has to be considered on individual terms .
(Tom Fudala . came in. )
Mr . Dubin: We 'll give you a chance -to make a quick speech on the set-
back one .
Mr . 1-Pudala: What we have on 28 is a disaster. That failure is the
reason for this .
Mr . Mlarsters : Where 's the failure? Be specific .
Mr . Fudala: It 's now worded for suitably landscaped and what 's happening,
is it . . and what 's considered suitable landscaping is retention ponds ,
and absolute clear cutting and it just looks like hell and a lot of
people have commented to me about this and -that 's why by-laws haven't
been respected and it 's obviously been that corridor of -trees that 's
been basically creating the character of this town is getting wiped
out and it 's going to continue to happen if something doesn't get done .
I don't -think the current by-law is strong enough for enforcement .
There 's this big loophole about suitably landscaping . If you ,%r.l.pe out
suitable landscaping you can do what 's necessary to protect the character
of town,
Mr. Marsters - Which project are you talking about .
Mr. Fudal : Anyones on 28 - the storage stables for one .
Mr. Marsters : That one never came before Design Review.
Mr. Fudala: I don' t think the words suitably- landscaped means what ',-,
going inn there now. A retention pond with a chain link fence . I don't
think that 's attractive at all and not attractive as far as what Mashpeels
all about . We can have this industrial development without having to
destroy the aesthetics of the -town. You can have it 'behind the -trees .
Most people don't have to be fronting on Rte . 28 and advertising to
the world .
Mr. P1'larsters . Which ones are you talking about , 11adaket? The Building
and landscaping is not to-Lally unattractive . The landscaping is very
attractive . The location of the pond was done 'by the fire department .
TI-e chain link fence is ugly and. was never shown on the original plan.
That.1,s been added . I don't know who added it . For insurance liability
