Tolun of
cl:ffl a 5 e P
F, P. 0, BOX 1108
MASHREE, MA 02649
PLANNING BOARD MINUTES : 4/17/85 P. 10
they did it but that was never in there . I think that we have a pro-
fessional design review board and a professional architect and a
professional landscape architect who are quit,e capable of what 's needed
in eacl. situation and you 're imposing a very rigid set of disciplines
here that says we have to leave the natural vegetation in each case
and that 's much -too rigid . It could end up being much more ugly.
All you would get is a 20' strip of natural vegetation and you wouldn' t
give the Design Review Commit-tee the opportunity to . . .
Mr. Fudala: We have another public hearing on this unfortunately on
May Ist so we have another couple of weeks to do some-thing on it .
Mr. Marsters : If you took the commercial out of there it would be ok
for now and then we could study the commercial for later.
Mr . Fudala : Even in the case where the requirement for planting trees
has been imposed it just hasn't been done . That becomes an enforcement
problem. If you had it natural in the first place you wouldn't have
the mish mash of each individual landscape architect 's idea of what
should be on 28 . A whole row of different setups . Then you don't have
the enforcement problem involved . You don't know if the tree 's going
to grow, do we charge the guy for planting new trees and he puts out
there 2 ' high sticks . It just creates a horror of problems and ruins
the attractiveness of the town, 'This is really to protect a lot of
the tourist industry we have now.
Mr. Miarsters : It sounds good but your article wouldn't do it . In fact
your article would cause the resignation OfIthe Design Review Committee
I 'm sure .
P"Ir. Fudala: Well_ that 's fine .
Mr. Marsters : Your're stating cases , The Design Review Committee had
no jurisdiction over or they haven't been completed, one or the other.
A jump all -the way with this is going -too far. It would make matters
worse .
Tvir. Fudala: Like I said we have 2 weeks to work on it . I can modify
it if you want within 2 weeks and come back on May 1 . 1 know it
depends on what you 're hying to accomplish but you put- it all together
and you get a mish mash which isn't appropriate
Nrc . Dubin : it 's an interesting new idea . I don't -think anybody's raised
the idea "before , creating some kind of strip of natural vegetation.
Considering it 's not what we have now, would it not be better if there
was a thin strip of natural vegetation in front of the pool .
