Second interviews were conducted today to hire the Program Representative for MRVP.
References need to be checked and a CORI done and then the job will be offered, most likely to
start in December.
Mrs. Botsford mentioned that she would be attending an awards ceremony next Tuesday in
Brewster with the Lieutenant Governor. The town of Brewster applied for, and received, a grant
through MassWorks which will greatly benefit the Brewster Housing Authority's upcoming
development of Brewster Woods. Mrs. Botsford will be making remarks at the ceremony on
behalf of the Brewster Housing Authority.
Mrs. Botsford informed the board that her vacation is the last week of this month.
OLD BUSINESS:
A). Carver and Brewster maintenance/administration: Mrs. Botsford reported that the Brewster
Housing Authority gladly agreed to a fee-for-service for their part time maintenance man, who
now works for Mashpee. The change has been seamless and is going well. Carver Housing
Authority board voted at its October meeting to reorganize, eliminate the part time maintenance
and administrative positions and move to a fee-for-service for both their maintenance and full
administrative needs. That resulted in a position elimination for an active employee. When she
was informed of the vote, she was offered a hearing with the board, which she wanted. She did
not take the news well and it has been quite stressful dealing with that. Unfortunately, the board
was supposed to meet last night to have the hearing, but due to a death in the family of the chair,
and another member asking to be excused, there was no quorum, thus no meeting. The hearing
is now rescheduled to December 11. Mrs. Botsford spoke about managing this very small
agency and even though it's our smallest management, it has the most challenges, mostly due to
staff issues. After discussion, a motion was made by Jill Allen and seconded by Kevin
Shackett to give Mrs. Botsford permission to decide how to proceed with the management
of Carver after the board there meets. The motion carried unanimously. Mrs. Botsford will
keep the board posted and is hoping for a good outcome.
NEW BUSINESS: none
OTHER BUSINESS: The chair mentioned that he was happy to finally have the Memorandum
of Understanding signed with the Town. He announced that he is moving out of Mashpee and
can no longer serve on the housing authority board. His resignation is effective immediately. A
discussion ensued and members expressed their great appreciation for Mr. Laporte's 15 years of
service on the board, with many of them as chair. Ms. Allen, as the Vice-Chair,will run
meetings until the next board elections in the spring.
COMMUNICATIONS/CORRESPONDENCE: none that hasn't already been mentioned.
NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 5:00 PM
unless something comes up before then. We will meet at 766 Falmouth Road,Unit 4A. Mrs.
Botsford is going to try to plan on an Open House that same afternoon.
