As with <br /> the Transfer Station sticker fees,the pollicy of the Board of Selectmen is that the fees charged <br /> should cover the cost for recycling of the particular item.. <br /> Background <br /> The Town accepts mattresses at the Transfer Station for recycling. A fee is paid at the gate for <br /> each piece. <br /> With the expiration of the mattress recycling grant received by the Town from the MA <br /> Department of Environmental Protection,the Town is now responsible for 1 0%of the coasts. <br /> The fee charged by the vendor includes a $10 per mattress fee plus a transportation/pick u <br /> fee.. The current fee of$12 per mattress does not cover the actual cost. <br /> Recommendation <br /> I recommend that the mattress fee be increased at the Transfer,station from $12 each to $15 <br /> each. <br /> Egos and Cons <br /> In 2019, ashplee residents/property owniers recycled 1,340 mattresses at the Transfer Station. <br /> The actual east of recycl''ing of these mattresses exceeded the amount paid at the gate for <br /> same. The proposed $15 fee is equal or less than that charged in other communities Falmouth <br /> $20, Barnstable $30, Ca�rmouth $15). <br />
