New Developments/Existing Development Requiring Wastewater Treatment Plants: <br /> Mashpee Village is pursuing their own treatment facility for its 140 units. Breezy Acres, a Mashpee <br /> Housing Authority project, has plans to expand from its current 6 units in 3 duplexes and are <br /> considering whether to develop their own facility or tie in to the high school wastewater treatment <br /> facility. The Chair has encouraged them to tie in to the school's facility. It was noted that the 40B <br /> Village at Forestdale in Sandwich would be added to the watershed. Chairman Fudala will be <br /> contacting the Sandwich Town Planner to discuss further details about that project. <br /> Falmouth Issues: <br /> Mr. Berrelli asked Mr. Potamis about the status of the MMR treatment plant. Mr. Potamis responded <br /> that there had been some misinformation about the project. Mr. Potamis will be meeting with MMR <br /> about the project. There was some discussion regarding ocean outfall in the Canal. There was also <br /> discussion about the MMR building a new treatment plant or expanding their existing plant. MMR has <br /> proposed to offer the towns an opportunity to provide joint treatment,but the facility would be run by a <br /> town or regional authority_ MMR has emphasized their willingness to assist with treatment but the <br /> discharge must be returned to the town. <br /> Regarding the SMaST Waquoit Bay MEP.modeling, Mr. Howes reported that they are still awaiting a <br /> decision from DER DEP funds are needed in order to complete the study. Mashpee and Falmouth <br /> have already contributed to the cost of the study. <br /> The Chair expressed interest in receiving a hard copy of the full Falmoth CWMP. Mr. Potamis stated <br /> that he forwarded the executive summary but that the entire report is available on the website. <br /> Sewer/Funding Issues in Barnstable, Chatham,Orleans& Other Towns: <br /> The Chair made note of an article that recently appeared in the Cape Cod Times regarding the"Cape's <br /> billion dollar wastewater problem." <br /> Tighe & Bond Flyer on Funds to Restore Marshes <br /> The Chair questioned whether or not funds would be available to assist Mashpee with their efforts and <br /> Mr. Eichner responded that it was expected that the list may be changed with the removal of outdated <br /> projects. It was recommended that projects with a scope of"tidal restrictions" be submitted in the <br /> event that there are changes to the list. SMaST will seek clarification whether or not the Santuit Pond <br /> study would qualify. <br /> Conference for Wastewater/Stormwnter Agencies <br /> The winter conference will occur in Boston. <br /> The Chair added that a representative from the Water District Commission will begin attending the <br /> Sewer Commission meetings. <br /> Falmouth FACES Meeting-January 13 <br /> The Chair was invited to attend the meeting to discuss the benefits of town Sewer Commissions, <br /> however, he recommended consideration of a combined Water/Sewer Commission, <br /> Potential USGS Solute Transport Modeling of Wastewater Discharges in Popponesset <br /> Watershed <br /> The Chair has not received an update but Tom Cambareri reported that water use information was <br /> provided approximately one month ago. <br /> 5 <br />
