11 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> March 2, 2020 <br /> Discussion and Approval of Waste Disposal Agreement: New Bedford Waste Services: Michael Camara: <br /> (continued) Discussion and Approval of Potential Waste Disposal Options, if required: <br /> Mr. Camara reaffirmed his previous comment that he does not see the bills and his costs are high. Mr. Camara <br /> stated if the Town of Mashpee finds another firm to take the trash to please do as there are not a lot of good things <br /> happening with Zero Waste Solutions. Regarding the modified Agreement that was transmitted to the Town <br /> Manager via email Mr. Camara indicated that Jerry Dugan, Jr. transmitted the email and has the authority to sign <br /> on Mr. Camara's behalf. <br /> Mr. Camara stated for the past five years his company has lost money, and has been financially impacted in a <br /> horrible way. Mr. Camara stated he has done his best to honor the Agreement and to support the Mashpee <br /> community. <br /> It was determined that an additional provision would be added to the Agreement stipulating in the event a <br /> competing cost is received, the Town could share the option with NBWS to give the company a chance to match <br /> to quote. Mr. Camara also recommended language in event NBWS offers a better rate this would be conveyed to <br /> the Town. Town Manager Rodney C. Collins was directed to meet with Michael Camara of New Bedford Waste <br /> Services to discuss this matter and receive the required documentation of costs related to disposal. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to hold firm with the disposal fee with New Bedford Waste Services <br /> for Calendar Year 2020 in an amount not to exceed $93.75 per ton, including all handling, transportation <br /> and disposal costs. NBWS shall provide adequate documentation as required with the option for a better <br /> rate with price protection in the event if it is so determined after consulting Town Counsel the contractor <br /> is in default of this Agreement. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br /> Discussion and Approval of the Following: Fire Suppression Inspection and Service; Transfer Station Gate Fees <br /> for Mattresses: Department of Public Works Director Catherine Laurent: <br /> Catherine Laurent, Director of Public Works was in attendance to request the Board approve the annual contract <br /> for Fire Suppression Inspection and Services. It is recommended a contract be awarded to Encore Fire Protection <br /> for a term of March 15, 2020—June 30, 2021. Encore Fire Protection is the lowest and most qualified bidder for <br /> this function. <br /> It was disclosed the original bid was awarded to Canco Fire Sprinkler Services. This firm went out of business, <br /> and was therefore unable to fulfill its obligations under contract. A memorandum dated February 21, 2020 was <br /> received from the Director with respect to this regard. The memorandum contains the bids solicited in January <br /> 2020, and the price quotations received from Encore Fire Protection. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to approve and award the annual bid for Fire Suppression Inspection <br /> Services to Encore Fire Protection as outlined. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br />
