11 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> May 18, 2020 <br /> Discussion of Department of Natural Resources Personnel: Town Manager Rodney Collins: <br /> Discussion, Certification and Confirmation of Natural Resources Director: Ashley Fisher: <br /> Town Manager Rodney C. Collins amiounced the retirement of Richard York, Director of Natural <br /> Resources on Friday, May 29, 2020. The position was posted in-house on April 9, 2020. Shellfish <br /> Constable Ashley Fisher was recommended for the position of DNR Director after completion of the review <br /> process and oral board examination. As the Appointing Authority Town Manager Collins indicated he is <br /> confident that Ms. Fisher possesses the necessary skills to perform the essential functions consistent with the <br /> job description. The in-house review process has complied with all Town policies and procedures required <br /> within the mandates of the Hiring Process. <br /> Town Manager Rodney C. Collins respectfully requested the Board certify the selection process and <br /> confirm the appointment of Ashley Fisher as Director of Natural Resources effective May 30, 2020. <br /> Selectman David W. Weeden acknowledged appreciation to Mr. York for his many years of service to the <br /> Town of Mashpee and urged the new appointment recognize the aboriginal rights of the Mashpee <br /> Wampanoag Tribal members to access the waterways to fish and harvest. This issue has been a consistent <br /> struggle with Native Americans, and with the economic challenges it is hopeful the Town and Tribe will <br /> make strides in moving forward. <br /> Recently there was an issue of alleged violations regarding the taking of herring. Town Manager Rodney C. <br /> Collins indicated he is apprised of the situation, and would ensure that education is enhanced to alleviate <br /> this type of situation. Ms. Fisher was noted to possess an enormous amount of integrity, and is well suited <br /> for this position. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to certify the selection process and confirm the appointment of <br /> Ashley Fisher as Director of Natural Resources effective May 30, 2020. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br />
