116 Report of Superintendent of Schools To the School Committee and the Citizens of The Town of Mashpee: I hereby submit my sixth annual report to the Citizens of Mashpee. To avoid duplication, the principal's report has been made a part of mine. The expanded facilities, in the form of four additional modern classrooms and a well-equipped cafetorium large enough to meet the immediate needs of the school, became a realization with the opening of schools in September. All who have labored so diligently over the past two years for the completion of this fine addition are to be com- mended. The new addition has provided adequately -equipped class- rooms, better enabling the teachers to carry out the program of the school. The new modern kitchen and cafeteria have made it pos- sible to provide wholesome meals, in a pleasant environment. It is still imperative, because of high overhead, that par- ents encourage their children to purchase meals at the cafe- teria. Most small schools find it difficult to operate a lunch program without a high pupil participation, Federal reim- bursement and generous use of surplus commodities. We try to make the lunch program a vital educational experience. The meals are carefully planned by our cafeteria manager, Mrs. Elretta Pocknett, and menus changed each day. Teachers act as hostesses and attempt to teach desirable standards of etiquette. Eighty to eighty-five percent of our pupils purchase their lunches. For the first time in several years, assembly programs were again able to be enjoyed by all. Over two hundred par- ents, children and friends enjoyed the use of the spacious auditorium and portable stage, at our Christmas Assembly, Eighty-two children participated.
