118 <br />subjects are receiving proper emphasis and how well they <br />have been taught. In the light of these results, the teacher <br />is able to evaluate necessary steps in planning their teaching <br />for the following year. <br />Three special items should be brought to the attention <br />of the citizens. <br />While the Samuel G. Davis School is not a large one, it <br />is the only school in town. It is also some distance from sur- <br />rounding communities. This presents certain unique prob- <br />lems in relation to adequate organization and supervision of <br />the program. In order that the town of Mashpee may be as- <br />sured of a well -supervised and effective program, the School <br />Committee has approved a full-time supervising principal for <br />September, 1962. It is our belief that this will strengthen our <br />educational program a great deal. A scond improvement that <br />the School Committee has approved, is an Educational Ad- <br />justment class. There has been a need for such a class for <br />some years. Its purpose is to work with those students, in- <br />dividually, who have serious academic problems, and to assist <br />them in preparing to meet the problems of a competitive <br />society when they finish their schooling. Again, I believe this <br />is a step in the right direction. <br />The third problem has not as yet been solved. For some <br />time there has been a need for art and music instruction <br />within the school. While we had part-time music help some <br />years ago, our difficulty has been to find able instructors who <br />were willing to help us on a part-time basis. I shall continue <br />to do my best to overcome this problem. <br />In closing, I should like to thank Mr. Coombs, the faculty, <br />and all other school personnel for their fine educational con- <br />tribution to the children of Mashpee. I am indeed grateful <br />for the excellent cgoperation and support of the School Com- <br />mittee.
