25
Fire Department Report
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending December
31, 1961.
There were (71) calls for fire and other assistance.
Brush Fires 18
House Fires 11
Dump Fires 16
Car Fires 3
Rescue and First Aid 11
Reports of Fire Investigations 8
Stand by at Accidents 3
Mutual Aid 1
I am sorry to say due to delayed calls two buildings were
a total loss; the remainder were only slightly damaged, I am
asking all persons needing assistance to call the Fire Dept.
direct, as delayed or relayed calls are time wasting and con-
fusing. Dump fires have been quite a problem and expense
and I am sure it was not all necessary. I think if the dump
was closed to non-resident junk collectors we would have had
far less fires at the dump.
As our town has no water supply or hydrants, we must
carry our water for fire fighting so I wish all voters will think
carefully about articles on equipment and repairs to trucks
so we won't have to take any trucks out of service for lack
of necessary parts.
I believe the public should know that although a fire
truck is not used as often as private vehicles, they are kept
in service much longer.
For those who are interested, Engine #1 is five years
old, #2 is twelve years old, #3 is old enough to vote but with
a few parts will last a few more years and give a good account
of itself as it has always done in the past.
