28
Report of the Board of Health
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts
The Board of Health hereby submits their report for
the year nineteen hundred sixty-one (1961), for the months
of April through December consecutively.
An annual survey of the town was conducted by the
Board to familiarize itself with the general conditions within
the town, and at the same time make notations of certain
situations that warranted future investigations and improve-
ment. The clean-up week, previously required, was discon-
tinued due to favorable -conditions and the individual partici-
pation of the towns -people.
In June 1961, the Board of Health established and opened
the new town dump; located off Ashers Path, and simultane-
ously closed all private dumping areas, thereby eliminated
many of the outstanding health menaces and obscured nuis-
ances.
All motels, restaurants, camps, trailer coach parks,
eating establishments, swimming pools and wading places
were inspected and given permits to operate in accordance
with the sanitary code.
The Board maintained the established dental program
which offered the school children an adequate and efficient
clinical service. Under this system there was a remarkable
decrease in the decay rate. This service to the children in the
Dentist's office enables the doctor, nurse and assistant to
offer a greater interest with each child beyond just the
annual visual inspection. Also, the service permits the Board
of Health to maintain an adequate control over dental de-
ficiences.
