39
Cemetery Commissioners' Report
To the Honorable Board of selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee
We hereby submit our report for the year ending Dec-
ember 1961.
This department has just been changed and there are
three members who are new to this type of work; we are
afraid that we got off to a slow start.
When work was started in late April we found that all
the tools we had to work with were two lawn mowers which
were both inoperable. Both were taken to the shop where we
were informed that one could be put into operation but, the
other was not worth fixing.
We then had to borrow two mowers which were loaned to
the department with no charge. Also we had to borrow rakes,
shovels, pitchforks and a trailer which we used to clean the
leaves and brush which had accumulated during the late
fall and winter months. We would at this time like to thank
the people who were willing to let us use their tools at no
charge or gain other than to see their town's cemetery look
nice.
During the past year we have bought some of the tools
that this department needs in order to operate, we are hoping
that the town will appropriate a sufficient sum to purchase
two mowers and also, to put some gravel on the road which
goes from the front door of the Old Indian Church down
Route 28. This road is badly in need of repair and depreciates
the attractiveness of the Old Indian Cemetery, which, we think
the citizens of the Town of Mashpee should be proud of.
