72 <br />or supports are used in the construction of chimneys or fire- <br />places, they shall be removed within two weeks after masonry <br />is laid. <br />Para. 9. Sizing and spacing of girders shall be in accord- <br />ance with Tables, I, II, III, and IV appended. <br />Para. 10. Wood floor joists. 1. Where joists frame into <br />side of wood girders, metal hangers or a bearing strip spiked <br />to the girder must be used. 2. Floor joists framed into mas- <br />onry walls shall have at least a four inch bearing and a three <br />inch fire bevel cut. 3. Floor joists shall be doubled under all <br />partitions running parallel to the floor joists. 4. All headers <br />over four feet long shall be doubled. 5. Floor joists shall be <br />cross bridged when span exceeds eight feet. At least one by <br />three inch or stronger stock shall be used. <br />Para. 11. Wood Rafters. 1. Truss construction may be <br />used provided it is of a strength comparable with Table IV <br />and is approved by the Building Inspector. 2. Collar ties not <br />less than 2 x 4 or 1 x 6 inches shall be used for all sloping <br />rafters. <br />Para. 12. Exterior wall studs. 1. Studs shall not be less <br />than two inches by four inches placed not more than sixteen <br />inches on center. 2. Headers over all openings shall be <br />doubled and shall be at least the following: (a) up to 3'-2 <br />2 x 4's (b) 3' to 51/2'-2 2 x 6's on edge. (c) 51/2' to T-2 2 x 8's <br />on edge. (d) over T-2 2x10's on edge. 3. In lieu of headers, <br />approved- trusses may be used. 4. Studs in exterior frame <br />walls may run from sill to roof line provided they do not <br />exceed twenty feet in length. 5. Studs shall not be spliced. <br />6. Floor joists on exterior walls shall bear on at least a one <br />inch by six inch ribbon let into the face of the studding. <br />Joists bearing on such ribbons shall be securely nailed to the <br />studs. <br />Para. 13. Plates: All top plates shall be not less than <br />two inches by four inches doubled, which shall lap at all <br />corners and joints or butts. <br />Para. 14. Interior Partitions. 1. All bearing partitions <br />shall be not less than two inches by four inches set the four <br />inch way, and not more than sixteen inches on center. 2. All <br />openings in bearing partitions shall have double headers <br />framed as required in exterior openings. 3. Top plates for <br />bearing partitions shall be doubled. <br />Para. 15. Notching of Timbers: Notching of joists to <br />facilitate the installation of pipes and ducts may be permitted <br />with the following installations: 1.
