120
Report of the
Regional School Planning Committee
To the honorable Board of Selectmen
and the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts
In the March Town Meeting 1963, the citizens of Mash -
pee, through their Moderator expressed their desire to estab-
lish a Regional School Planning Committee to affirm the
need for a vocational high school. This Committee has in-
vestigated and worked comprehensively to have Mashpee in-
cluded in the District Regional School. A great interest in
the youth of this community, as to their future education, has
been expressed. At this time, the committee urges Mashpee
to become a benefiting member in the Regional Vocational
School District.
Needless to state, but of great importance, the question;
"How is a student to fulfill his educational requirements to
meet his life's vocation?" is ever before us. To this end the
committee has endeavored with surrounding Towns to estab-
lish a Regional Vocational School within the Town of Bourne.
Sometimes a student feels his local academic high school
offers little toward his goal, but through a vocational school
system, he may choose to increase his education in a specific
trade. Vocational education has become a prime factor to
Prepare our youth for future industries. Vocational educa-
tion is not an outlet—but an INLET through which our stu-
dents may pass, and progress successfully into industrious
citizens. It is urged that a vocational school system be ac-
cepted. This can be done by voting affirmatively, planning,
and initiating funds to have the Regional School
materialize.
Surveys have shown the need for additional schools, but
schools of distinct ability to offset the ever increasing un-
employment situation. A student with a trade has employ-
ment and the employment will lead to his success.
