103 Report of the Superintendent of Schools To the School Committee and the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee It is with pleasure that I submit my second annual re- port to the Citizens of Mashpee. Mrs. Stella A. Hicks who ably served on the Mashpee School Committee as Secretary for many, many years made known the fact early in 1964 that she would not be a candi- date for reelection in March, 1964. Mrs. Hicks worked faith- fully and effectively over the years to make possible the best educational system for the young people of Mashpee. Her efforts and accomplishments will be remembered into the far distant future by many pupils who attended the Samuel G. Davis School. Mrs. Hicks was succeeded as a member of the Mashpee. School Committee by Mrs. John Costill. At the close of the school year in June, 1964, Mrs. Elaine Harvey, teacher of grade two, Mrs. Mary Newbern, teacher of grade six, and Mr. Frederick Nagle, teacher of grades seven and eight submitted their resignations to my office. They were accepted with regret as each contributed much beyond the call of duty to the educational philosophy of the Mashpee School System. With the transfer of grades seven and eight to the Barnstable Junior High School, it was not necessary for me to replace Mr. Nagle. Mr. Philip Curry, a 1964 gradu- ate of Bridgewater State College was placed under contract to teach grade six and Miss Cynthia Coffey, a graduate of Lesley College to grade two. In addition to the general cleaning and maintenance of the school during the summer months, a schedule was set up and the following accomplished previous to the opening of school in September: 1• The exterior trim of the new addition was scraped, and painted two coats. 2. Old shingles and flashing were removed and new installed on the roof on the north side of the orig- inal Samuel G. Davis School.
