105 Report of the School Principal To Mr. Clayton E. Campbell, Superintendent of Schools, School Committee and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee The annual report of the Samuel G. Davis School is here- with submitted from the Principal. Last year as of October 1, the school enrollment for grades one through eight was 182. This year, the enrollment for the same date was 205—an increase of 12 per cent. Anticipating pupil growth, our school committee followed the recommendation of our Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Clayton E. Campbell and arrangements were made with the Barnstable School Committee to take our seventh and eighth grade pupils on a tuition basis. Not only did this provide ample room for the remaining pupils of the Samuel G. Davis School but it made it possible for our young seventh and eighth graders to become a part of one of the largest and best Junior High Schools in this area. A school of this size has many advantages. Pupils are grouped according to abili- ty. Facilities such as science laboratories, gymnasiums, vo- cational courses, household arts courses and extra -curricula activities are invaluable to the development of children of the Junior High School age. The Samuel G. Davis School is now comprised of six regular grades, one double grade and a remedial adjustment class. The school day has been increased by thirty-five min- utes by shortening the recesses and the lunch period. This extra time is well spent in the regular classroom activities. Again we were able to continue the fine work in art under our art supervisor, Mrs. Catherine Todd. Mr. James E. Gregg, our music supervisor added instrumental music to those in grades four through six who wished to enjoy this opportunity.
