27
Report of the Public Health Nurse
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee
During the three years since I have enjoyed my position
as Mashpee Public Health Nurse, this year has been one of
the most rewarding.
Many new homes have been visited and new friends
made. A total of 254 visits were made in connection with
nursing service throughout the town.
With the retirement of Dr. Frederick Moore, M.D., from
the Barnstable County Health Department, it was necessary
for us to make arrangements with Dr. Paul Jaques, M.D. of
Osterville, for continued clinic work. Dr. Jaques conducted
three immunization clinics in February, March, and May. 17
pre-school children were given Smallpox vaccination and 32
pre-school children immunized for Diphtheria, Tetanus and
Whooping Cough. 19 school pupils of Grades 1 and 5 were
also given D.P.T. booster shots.
Dr. Jaques performed physical examinations on all pupils
of Grades 1, 4 and 8. We greatly appreciate his services and
hope that we may continue to do so in the future.
Sabin Oral Vaccine for Poliomyelitis is now administered
in a tri -valent form. 15 people received this drink last Spring.
Anyone who has not yet been so immunized for Poliomyelitis,
may have these drops by contacting me through Mr. Coombs
at the school.
The dental health program this year included examin-
ation and classification of every child in the S. G. Davis
School. 165 were screened, 124 received Fluoride treatment
designed to prevent caries formation, and 26 pupils were
treated by Dr. Gwendolyn Crawford for existing decay.
One child referred to Mental Health Clinic, one child
to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston and 2 new
