22 <br />Report of Long Range Planning Committee <br />As the. result of an affirmative vote on Article 39 at the <br />Mashpee Annual Town Meeting in March of 1966; the Board <br />of Selectmen appointed the following individuals to the com- <br />mittee to conduct a study of the future needs of the town: <br />Mr. Carl A. Avant, Chairman <br />Mr. J. Norman Fitzgerald <br />Mr. Ralph A. Rockwell <br />Mr. Howard A. Rohdin <br />Mr. Marvel C. Stalcup <br />This committee adopted the name `.'Long Range Planning <br />Committee" in order to distinguish its activities from those <br />of other Town Boards and Committees. <br />Early in the Committee's deliberations and studies it be - <br />'came apparent that the scope of the required task would re- <br />quire qualified professional talent which would insure results <br />in the best long range interests of the Town of Mashpee. Be- <br />cause Mashpee could not undertake the . expected costs of <br />such an activity, the Committee looked about for other <br />sources of funding which would be available to the Town for <br />planning purposes. <br />After consultation with the Cape Cod Planning and De- <br />velopment Commission; and the Division of Planning, Massa- <br />chusetts Department of Commerce; the Committee deter- <br />mined that the town of Mashpee would qualify for assistance <br />under the federal 701 Urban Planning Assistant Program, <br />Briefly, this program provides that the Federal Government, <br />through the Massachusetts Dept. of Commerce, can provide <br />two-thirds of the cost of the type of planning program re- <br />quired by the Town of Mashpee. <br />Mr. Pallon, Director of the Division of Planning, Massa- <br />chusetts Department of Commerce and Development provided <br />the Committee with complete information concerning the <br />actions and procedures necessary to submit a qualified re- <br />
