48 <br /> i <br /> (b) If the amount of leave credit provided has been or is <br /> about to be exhausted, an employee may make application <br /> for additional allowance to that provided under sub-section <br /> ('a) Such application shall be made to the Board, which is <br /> authorized to grant such additional allowances as it may de- <br /> termine to be equitable after reviewing all circumstances <br /> including the employee's attendance and performance rec- <br /> ord prior to conditions supporting his request for additional <br /> allowance. <br /> (c) Sick leave may be authorized by the department head <br /> and must be reported, on blanks provided for same, to the <br /> Board. <br /> (d) A physician's certificate of illness must be required <br /> from an employee by his department head before leave is <br /> granted under the provisions of this section. This certificate <br /> shall be forwarded by the department head to the Board with- <br /> in one week for its approval. <br /> . � (e) The Board may, of its own motion, require an addition- <br /> al medical examination of any employee who reports his in- <br /> ability to report for duty because of illness. This examina- <br /> tion shall be at the expense of the Town by a physician ap- <br /> pointed by the Board. <br /> (f) Injury, illness or disability self-imposed, or resulting <br /> from the use of alcohol or drugs, shall not be considered a <br /> proper claim for any benefits under this section. <br /> (g) Payments made under the provisions of this section <br /> shall be limited in the case of an employee who is receiving <br /> Workmen's Compensation payments to the difference be- <br /> tween the amount paid in Workmen's Compensation and the <br /> employee's regular rate. <br /> (h) In the event of payments made to an employee under <br /> the preceding sub-section, the Board may debit the em- <br /> ployee's sick leave accrual by such amounts as it determines <br /> to be equitable in relation to such payments with the excep- <br /> tions of paragraph (f). <br /> (i) Nothing in this section shall be construed to conflict <br /> 4 with Section 100 of Chapter 41 of the General Laws. <br /> BEREAVEMENT LEAVE <br /> Emergency leave up to three days may be allowed fol <br /> the purpose of attending the funeral of the deceased in an <br /> employee's immediate family (wife, husband, mother, fath- <br /> er, child, brother or sister.) <br />
