71 119 In compliance with the mandate of the Massachusetts Department of Education, your Superintendent forwarded the following letter to Dr. Neil Sullivan, Commissioner of Education. SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Town of Mashpee December 30, 1969 Dr. Neil Sullivan Commissioner of Education r Massachusetts Department of Education 182 Tremont Street, k Boston, Massachusetts Dear Dr. Sullivan: k I write to you in the name of the Mashpee School Com- mittee in regard to Item #5 under "Guidelines For School District Organization" as follows: { "Each School Committee with less than 2,000 pupils under its jurisdiction on December 31, 1968, shall submit-a plan to implement these Guidelines to the Commissioner of Education by December 31, if 1969". An effort was made by the Mashpee School Committee § to implement the Guidelines through regionalization with the Town of Sandwich. Even though the voters of Mashpee voted in favor of regionalization with Sandwich at a special g, Town Meeting, held in Mashpee, June 16, 1969, it was to no l avail as Sandwich voted in opposition. E' A joint meeting of the Mashpee and Falmouth School Committees was held during the summer of 1969. At said meeting, the Mashpee School Committee requested that Fal- mouth continue to educate the Mashpee High School pupils on a tuition basis as has been done for the past forty years f, and one day .in the future also accept the Mashpee Junior High School pupils on as tuition basis. Presently, the Mashpee Junior High School pupils attend the Lyle Junior High School I on Otis Air Force Base under the jurisdiction of the Bourne School Committee on a tuition basis.
