71 <br /> 119 <br /> In compliance with the mandate of the Massachusetts <br /> Department of Education, your Superintendent forwarded <br /> the following letter to Dr. Neil Sullivan, Commissioner of <br /> Education. <br /> SCHOOL DEPARTMENT <br /> Town of Mashpee <br /> December 30, 1969 <br /> Dr. Neil Sullivan <br /> Commissioner of Education <br /> r <br /> Massachusetts Department of Education <br /> 182 Tremont Street, <br /> k Boston, Massachusetts <br /> Dear Dr. Sullivan: <br /> k I write to you in the name of the Mashpee School Com- <br /> mittee in regard to Item #5 under "Guidelines For School <br /> District Organization" as follows: <br /> { "Each School Committee with less than 2,000 <br /> pupils under its jurisdiction on December 31, 1968, <br /> shall submit-a plan to implement these Guidelines to <br /> the Commissioner of Education by December 31, <br /> if <br /> 1969". <br /> An effort was made by the Mashpee School Committee <br /> § to implement the Guidelines through regionalization with <br /> the Town of Sandwich. Even though the voters of Mashpee <br /> voted in favor of regionalization with Sandwich at a special <br /> g, <br /> Town Meeting, held in Mashpee, June 16, 1969, it was to no l <br /> avail as Sandwich voted in opposition. <br /> E' A joint meeting of the Mashpee and Falmouth School <br /> Committees was held during the summer of 1969. At said <br /> meeting, the Mashpee School Committee requested that Fal- <br /> mouth continue to educate the Mashpee High School pupils <br /> on a tuition basis as has been done for the past forty years <br /> f, and one day .in the future also accept the Mashpee Junior <br /> High School pupils on as tuition basis. Presently, the Mashpee <br /> Junior High School pupils attend the Lyle Junior High School I <br /> on Otis Air Force Base under the jurisdiction of the Bourne <br /> School Committee on a tuition basis. The Falmouth School I <br /> Committee assured the Mashpee School Committee that Fal- j <br /> mouth would continue to accept the Mashpee High School <br /> _ Li. i til <br />
