29
In order to maintain a museum as such, it is necessary
to staff it. A Curator, clerk and maintenance services are
essential. Brown University, Providence, R.I. has agreed to
assist us in setting up the museum, by sending interested
graduate students of Anthropology to work with us.
Brown University has agreed to give these students that
come to Mashpee adequate credits toward their degrees. We
expect that they will assist with display set-ups, cataloging
and labeling as well as some research which must be done
to identify relics and artifacts. Such service will be of great
value to our project.
In view of the fact that the Historical Commission is
presently conducting a campaign to raise funds to maintain
the proposed projects, the Law requires that all funds raised
in the name of the Town of Mashpee must be deposited in
the General Fund of the Mashpee Treasury. Any request for
funds required to maintain such projects must be presented
to the voters in the Warrant as an article and voted to take
from available funds, the necessary sum of money. We state
this fact so that the voters will be aware funds which we may
request may have been previously raised by this commission
for our projects.
The Historical Commission requests the voters to accept
gifts which may be offered by private Foundations, business-
men as well as private persons, designating the specific pur-
pose of the gift.
It is the endeavor of this commission to accomplish our
mission with as little taxation to the people of the Town of F
Mashpee as possible.
The First issue of the Commemorative medals, as well as
the first edition of the pictorial magazine will be on sale dur-
ing the Annual Town Meeting for the People of Mashpee. In
this way we shall accommodate the residents and allow ade-
quate time for reprints prior to the celebration.
No appropriations relative to the activities of the Histor-
ical Commission were requested in 1969, however, we shall
submit articles in the Annual Town Meeting Warrant for i
funding in March 1970. This department shall require recur-
ring appropriations annually. For the year of 1970, no funds
for this department are necessary until August 1, 1970, there-
