To the Constable of the <br /> Town of Mashpee GREETINGS: <br /> In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you <br /> are hereby directed to notify and summons the inhabitants <br /> of the Town of Mashpee, who are qualified to vote in the <br /> elections, to meet at Town Hall on Wednesday, October 21, <br /> 1970, at 7:30 O'clock p.m. to act on the articles contained in <br /> the following warrant: <br /> The meeting was opened and brought to order by the <br /> Town Moderator at 8:00 O'clock p.m. Following was a prayer <br /> offered by Mrs. William G. Lovett. Tellers were Mrs. Wilbur <br /> Oakley and Mrs. Marion Griffin. <br /> The following resolution was given to the Moderator <br /> which he presented to the voters. <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> 'j Whereas: Otis Air Force is shown to be high on a list of <br /> possible sites for a second major airport — <br /> an international jetport — in a report by the <br /> Metropolitan Area Planning Council; and <br /> Whereas: The establishment of such a facility on Cape <br /> Cod would effect and change adversely the <br /> present relative freedom on environmental <br /> pollution, the present ecological balance, the <br /> �i present social and moral co-mixture, the <br /> over-all economy; and <br /> jj Whereas: The establishment of such a facility on Cape <br /> �I Cod would destroy the dreams of many who <br /> planned for a quiet retirement and would de- <br /> stroy the recreational industry which has <br /> been built and fostered by so many for so <br /> many years, at great sacrifice; and then <br /> Be it resolved that we, the citizens of the Town of Mash- <br /> pee, in Town Meeting assembled on this the 21st day of Octo- <br /> !, ber, 1970, express our opposition to the establishment of this <br /> international jetport on Cape Cod and to express our oppo- <br /> sition in concrete fashion we direct the Board of Selectmen <br /> itof the Town of Mashpee to contact in person and by mail <br />
