19
tion was a sell-out. Presently this publication is being used
in schools as well as colleges across the nation as a reference
and has stimulated a renewed interest in our town, its his-
tory and the Wampanoag people. With the current demand
for the booklet, is is our recommendation that this material
be reprinted for the benefit of the Avant House.
The Mashpee Historical Commission manned and decor-
ated a booth of authentic artifacts and relics for exhibit at
the Annual Barnstable County Fair in July 1971. We wish to
extend our appreciation to. the. Sandwich Cooperative Bank
for sponsoring our Blue Ribbon Winning Booth. And to the
enthusiastic teenagers that came forward to assist in build-
ing, decorating, and manning the booth in regalia; we give
our warmest thanks for a job well done. It would have been
impossible to operate. the exhibit for the three long, hot
days, without their donation of time, interest, and total co-
operation. Last but not least to all those persons that so
generously contributed their efforts, priceless artifacts and
cherished relics for the beautiful display from the Town of
Mashpee, may we acknowldege your help and trust with
appreciation. Due to the great response and interest in the
exceptional exhibits which we were fortunate enough to dis-
play, we have been invited to participate in the forthcoming
CAPE COD SHOW OF PROGRESS, which is to be held in
Hyannis during April, 1972.
There is much to be accomplished during the coming
year. The completion of the Avant House is high on our list
of priorities. The beautification of the area surrounding the
building is next. In kind services and materials are a must
and we sincerely hope that residents and businessmen of our
town will realize our urgent need for contributions, no matter
how small. Most of all, this Commission needs the support
and encouragement of the citizens of Mashpee in their en-
deavors, to accomplish some of the goals which we have
presented.
Respectfully submitted,
AMELIA G. BINGHAM, Chairman
HAZEL OAKLEY
Mashpee Historical Commission
I
