i
37
Chapter 90 Construction
Under Chapter 90 Construction which took into consideration
Seconsett Island Road project to raise the causeway and insert a
10 x 14 ft. archway connecting Hamlins Pond to Waquoit Bay.
i
Contracts were issued to Reynolds Brothers and construction was
started in December 1972.
Chapter 497 Acts of 1971
Under Chapter 497 which is a state grant awarded to all
towns through a one cent increase in gasoline tax and earmarked
Highway Maintenance, we were able to accomplish many overdue
maintenance problems and projects which could not be accom-
plished through Chapter 81 and Chapter 90 Maintenance. De-
grasse Road was one of these major projects.
In an attempt to improve on the streets and roads for construc-
tion in private developments, the Planning Board has requested
the Department's assistance and inspections of road beds prior to f
their final approval. These inspections have been made since June
1972. It has also been made policy by the Planning Board that the
Department construct and place on site all street signs of uniform
pattern to assist Police Dept. and Fire Dept. in locating streets on
emergency calls.
In closing, we would like to express our thanks and gratitude
to all the Town Departments and Committees which have assisted
the Highway Department and a special thanks to Mr. Mouse and
MX. Flanagan of the Massachusetts State Department of Public
Works, District 7 for their help and consideration.
Respectfully submitted,
GEORGE F. GREEN,
Highway Surveyor
