44
Report of the
I,
Municipal Sites and Building Committee
To the Honorable Board of Seleetmen
and the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
This Committee has met weekly for 23 meetings to date. Work
was commenced by a study of the report of the previous Municipal e
Needs Committee contained in the 98th Annual Report (1968).
a Review of the 1968 report was made and brought up-to-date
1
at meetings with the Chief of Police and the Chief of the Fire
Department.
During the course of such reviews it was realized that the
needs of the Highway Department had been omitted. As the situa-
1 I tion of that department was seen to be urgently in need of attention,
a a study of the needs has been made in conjunction with the Depart-
ment Surveyor.
Analysis has shown that by updating the Highway Department
I facilities, the Town will gain in services and at the same time save
considerable sums of money. A complete separate report and
recommendations, co-sponsored by this Committee, is being sub-
mitted by the Highway Department Surveyor.
In searching out the needs of the Police, Civil Defense, and
Fire Departments and from careful review of previous reports and
the Planning Study Report Summary of 1971, it was realized that
': the selection of a Municipal Buildings site was a primary require-
ment. After consultations with the Selectmen, the Trustees of the
Reservation, and each of the departments concerned, a site has
been finally selected which we are assured by our Town's Counsel
! is owned by the Town. (Thus assuring minimum expenditure for
the site).
The continuing work of the Committee now is involved in the
development of a topographical survey, the detailed specifications
of each department's needs, the investigation of water, power, sew-
age, access roads, etc. It can be noted that in consultation with
the Fields' Point Corporation, assurance was given that amicable
arrangements can be made for adequate access roads to the selected
site.
