Each child achieves on his level and <br /> x feels a pride in succeeding. <br /> It is the hope of the administration of our school that in <br /> the Fall of 1974 we shall introduce "Individualized Guided <br /> t <br /> Instruction" at least in some areas in all the grades. Individ- <br /> ualized instruction, as explained at a recent workshop, does <br /> not mean "a child working alone, or a child doing as he <br /> pleases,"—"it does mean that every child has a learning pro- <br /> gram tailored to his or her personal needs, whether the pupil <br /> works alone or in a small group or as part of a large group. <br /> Another result that emerged from the "summer curricu- <br /> " lum study" was a need for a sequential, coordinated teaching <br /> program in all grades, in each subject area, a means of guar- <br /> anteeing greater continuity and direction to our total school <br /> program. <br /> IWith the appointment of Mrs. Marilyn Strauss, as our <br /> full-time art instructor, children now enjoy for the first time, <br /> two forty-five minutes of art instruction. During the year, <br /> all pupils have had new experiences working with a vast varie- <br /> ty of craft and art media. <br /> Another addition to our curriculum has been a study of <br /> s `:`Basic Concepts of Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs, Their Use) <br /> ` and Abuse." <br /> Of interest to many has been our new course in "Human <br /> Behavior." A program accenting that all behavior has <br /> causes or reasons behind the type of behavior exhibited. <br /> f01 <br /> Teachers and pupils can identify the causes of the behavior <br /> 1,�, shown or displayed through classroom demonstrations, film- <br /> I' s strips, prepared stories and teacher-led discusion. Through <br /> W1, this type of discussion led by teachers, children may gain new <br /> {__ understandings of human behavior and may hopefully learn <br /> rig ;j to apply this to his own living experiences. <br /> r <br /> N� Personnel Changes: <br /> t Three additional specialists have been added to our <br /> I i school staff: Miss Susan I. Zicko, learning disability teacher; <br /> Mrs. Grace Day, school psychologist; and Miss Ann Mac- <br /> Sweeney, a reading coordinator.
