133 Due to the increased enrollment in the Fall of 1973, it was necessary to engage the services of Mrs. Gail Castano to teach Grade 5. She formerly taught in the City of Brockton, Massachusetts. Volunteers and Para-professionals: We welcome parents and friends who have talents they wish to share with boys and girls. It may be tutoring on a one-to-one basis, or teaching a child how to play chess or tennis, or explaining the working of a machine or showing slides of a foreign country. We are grateful to Col. Eugene Clark of Sandwich, historian and marine biologist, who each year shares his slides on Cape Cod marine life, whaling and ecology; to Mrs. Esther Smith, retired school teacher and a former teacher at our school, who gives valuable aid in help- ing children who have reading difficulties; to Mrs. Sparre for her craft instruction; to Mr. Bengt A. Carlsson, a retired exe- cutive, who teaches boys how to play chess; and to Brownie and Girl Scout leaders, who give of their time and talents that young girls may enjoy the fruits of scouting. May I, as we go forward into another year, quote the words of John W. Gardner, former Secretary Department. of Health, Education and Welfare, "Man is an inquisitive ,ex- ploring creature . . . who can not keep his restless mind in- active . .'. who can not help poking at things . . . turning new ideas over in his mind . . . trying new combinations . . . groping for new insights." l In closing, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you for your guidance, to our School Committee, to our de- voted teachers, to our school nurse, to our cafeteria and to our custodial personnel, the bus drivers, and to all with whom I work and to the parents for their continued support and co- operation.
