62 <br /> j <br /> Report of the Veterans' Agent <br /> and Director of Veteran's Services <br /> District Board: <br /> i Carl Hiler, Sandwich <br /> Martin Hoxie, Barnstable x <br /> Charles Eager, Yarmouth <br /> Joseph Merchant, Dennis <br /> Randolph Peters, Mashpee o <br /> I hereby submit my 1973 annual report of the District <br /> Department Veterans Services. t <br /> For the town of Mashpee, this Department spent$11,035.39 s <br /> on Veterans Benefits which includes ordinary living expenses, <br /> medical and nursing homes. This total was based on 18 cases 1 <br /> which were aided. € <br /> Besides aiding veterans and their dependents in a finan- <br /> cial manner, this department shall assist them in furnishing <br /> such information, advice and assistance to enable them to t <br /> procure the vocational and other opportunities such as edu- <br /> cational, hospitalization, medical care, pensions, compensa- <br /> tion and any other veterans benefits. A total of 6,072 people <br /> availed themselves during 1973: also, this office handled <br /> 5,355 incoming telephone calls. <br /> Included in this is a report from Investigator, Sidney L. <br /> Chase, as follows: <br /> "As the District's Investigator, my primary job is to make <br /> regular reports on all cases on Veterans Benefits; semi-annual <br /> reports on all permanent cases and monthly visits on all <br /> temporary cases; for the calendar year 1973, there were 26 <br /> home investigations; 12 permanent cases, 14 temporary cases. <br /> My other duties are to assist Mr. Cross with Veterans serv- <br /> ices work and any other daily problems that arise from the <br /> 6,072 that availed themselves of our office during 1973." <br /> As the Director and agent, I wish to thank Mrs. Josephine <br /> Angell, my principal secretary; and Mrs. Florence Bell, my <br /> medical secretary, for their outstanding work throughout <br /> the year. Also, I thank the Board of Selectmen and their <br /> various Town Departments for their splendid cooperation <br /> throughout the year. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> CHARLES H.
