i
64
Report of the
Municipal Sites and Building Needs Committee
i To the Honorable Hoard of Selectmen
and the Citizens of the Town of 1Vlashpee:
This Committee has continued to meet weekly and has
progressed in the following areas.
1. Review of the Existing Municipal Facilities
The review of the existing Municipal Facilities has been
completed, and it has been clearly established that there are
pressing needs for better accommodation for the Depart-
ments of Highway, Police, and Fire.
In consultation with the Highway Department Surveyor,
with the Chiefs of Police and Fire, the Committee has de-
veloped preliminary specifications and schematic plans of the
required facilities in each department. These specifications
and plans have been tentatively approved by the Board of
Selectmen pending detailed architectural analysis.
2. Site Selection
The Town's legal title to the selected sites has now been
positively assured by our Town's Legal Counsel, and the topo-
graphic survey of the lots (67-1 and 67-2) has been success-
fully completed. s
i
3. Selection of Architect
With the above essential groundwork achieved, the Com-
mittee has proceeded with the selection of an architect. (As
permitted by the approval of Article 16 at the Town Meeting
of March, 1973). The selection of the architect was made by
submitting the preliminary specifications and plans to a total
of thirty-five architects, and seven of that number were se-
lected by the Committee for first-hand interview. Following
the evaluation and examination of references, William Mead
of Nahant, Massachusetts was selected as the architect for
the three primary projects. (Highway, Police and Fire De-
partment).' A contract for the preparation of working draw-
Ings has been agreed by the Town's Counsel and signed by
the Selectmen.
