Reassess results (test) to see if the objectives or skills <br /> have been learned. <br /> Today, especially, there is no one teacher who can be all <br /> things to a classroom full of pupils. There are those who, <br /> as classroom teachers, desperately try to work with young- <br /> sters as individuals, but the task is insurmountable. <br /> Since the days of Socrates, educators have preached a <br /> far better story than they have practiced. They have ac- <br /> knowledged that the best education is based on the indi- <br /> vidual child, his needs, abilities and differences. They have <br /> acknowledged in theory, the different rates of learning, in <br /> learning styles and the learning needs, yet in practice edu- <br /> cators are boxed in by yesterdays,realities. <br /> Too often, in many schools, a significant part of each <br /> day is spent teaching to that mythical average, cranking off <br /> thirty copies of everything, using the same text for every <br /> pupil, giving identical assignments to every pupil and slowly <br /> watching mass education "turn off" children. The time is <br /> past due for bringing practice in line with preaching; not for <br /> the sake of change, but for the sake of children.
