97
Report of the Fire Department
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending Decem-
ber 31, 1974.
The enclosed chart is an effort to clearly show the num-
ber and types of responses which the department made
during the last year. Please note that the total responses
during 1974 was 312, as compared to 204 for the year 1973.
Chart may be found at end of this report.
I would like to say at this time, how grateful I am that
the Town saw fit to increase the efficiency of the depart-
ment, by adding four (4) additional firefighters last year,
and I would like to see an additional two (2) firefighters
added this year.
We have emphasized the need and importance of school-
ing and training this past year, and I would like to inform
you of the progress. First, we were fortunate in having one
firefighter, Gregory Willis, on his own initiative, enter into
a seven-week Fire Training Course at the Massachusetts
Firefighting Academy at Stow, Massachusetts. Firefighter
Willis finished this course and graduated at the top of his
class, for which he should be commended. Another bene-
ficial factor to the department, based on his attendance
to the Academy, was the processing of necessary paper work,
enabling our department to be approved by the Veterans'
Administration as a training facility; of which we are now
approved. Three firefighters have completed the Firefight-
ing Practices I course at the County Fire School. Two fire-
fighters have completed an Electrical Course pertaining to
Firefighting. Three men have completed a 30 hour pump
operators course at the County Fire School.
In addition to these formal courses, we have been hold-
ing practice drills within the department, as well as several
beneficial combined drills with other departments in our
area.
