98
A service with which we are becoming more involved
with is Emergency Medical Service, or.more. commonly re-
ferred to as ambulance service. A State Law which is taking
effect on July 1, 1975, -provides that persons operating
p
ambulances must
have completed an 81 hour course and

passed the National Registry Examination. At the present
time this department has four qualified persons,. of which
two are full time, and two are callmen. We presently have
i three firefighters enrolled in this course, and hopefully will
have them fully qualified by July 1, 1975.
We are planning a Catch-Up Program in purchases of
m pp
equipment and supplies, to try to overcome the effects of
q p
several years when apparently, nothing was purchased in
the way of hose and other items that require replacement
periodically because of wear and tear.
I am asking that the Town, this year, consider supply-
ing transportation for the Fire Chief. Either by the pur-
chasing of a vehicle; or establishing an expense account for
the use of his personal vehicle. There are many miles to be
travelled in performing the duties of Fire Chief. Not only
within the Town, but outside of the Town. I have been
using the new four-wheel drive pick-up for the most part,
and my personal vehicle at times also. I have been averag-
ing 500 miles per month in the new pick-up, and I would
guess as much as 50 to 75 miles in my personal vehicle.
The pick-up truck, with the skid mount pump and tank
actually is and should be treated as piece of firefighting
apparatus. This piece of apparatus has proven its worth
since its entry into service.
Another area into which we have made a start and will
continue to expand, is our inspections. As soon. as we are
able to acquaint an inspector or inspectors, an additional
type of inspection will be initiated by this department
I
along with the continuance of our oil burner inspections.
Necessary.forms and files, which are mandatory in keeping
up to date records of inspections must be purchased. Added
to this, is the fact of the new State Law requiring alarm
systems in all homes built after Jana 1, 1975 and naming
the Fire Chief as the enforcing authority. This adds up to
a lot more work and travelling and inspecting for the Chief
or his inspector.
We have added several names to our list of calimen,
my only regret is that I have not been able to outfit them
j;
