i Tl MUNICIPAL BUILDING SITE & NEEDS COMMITTEE I To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee: In their Annual Report to the Town for the year ending December, 1974 this Committee outlined the progress which was being made towards the selec- tion and planning of a site, and the preparation of architect's plans for the Town's Police, Fire and Highway Departments. i' In March of 1975 it was distressing to learn that the total construction costs of the projected buildings would be grossly more expensive than the or estimates given by the architect and could not be accepted. The reason for the excessive costs was thoroughly researched by the Committee and at the Special Town Meeting of April 3rd, it regretfully was recommended to the taxpayers that the entire project should be postponed for complete reappraisal. As a direct result of that reappraisal and following some attempts at revision of the construction specifications, it was determined that the contract with the architect should be terminated. Since that time work has been done by the Committee which gives ' every assurance that, in spite of escalating construction costs, the required Y municipal facilities can be achieved at costs which will be more reasonable } and acceptable. Y� Concurrently, the Committee has worked in conjunction with the I Mashpee School Committee on the specification of the required "Middle i !
