i <br /> SPECIAL TOWN MEETING WARRANT <br /> JANUARY 29, 1975 <br /> Barnstable, ss: <br /> To the Constable of the Town of Mashpee Greetings: <br /> In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby <br /> directed to notify and summons the inhabitants of the Town of Mashpee, who <br /> are qualified to vote in the elections, to meet at Town Hall on Wednesday, <br /> January 29, 1975 at 7:30 p.m. to act on the articles contained in the following <br /> warrant: <br /> I <br /> i The meeting was brought to order by the Moderator, Peter M. <br /> jLawrence, at 7:45 p.m. 269 voters were in attendance. A quorum was <br /> declared. <br /> Prayer was offered by the former Town Selectman, Leroy M. Aikens. <br /> I <br /> 1 <br /> Tellers were: Eleanor M. Peters and Mary H. Potter. <br /> The Moderator introduced Brent C. McMahan, Executive Secretary, <br /> and wished a "long, successful, and productive career in the Town of <br /> Mashpee", to him. <br /> Claire J. Gillis, President of the Taxpayers Association, commented <br /> on the great work the Finance Committee is doing. She strongly urged the <br /> taxpayers to attend their meetings to see how effectively the tax dollars are <br /> i <br /> being spent. <br /> Article 1: To see if the Town will vote to rescind the action taken on <br /> Article 25 of the Annual Town Meeting of May 13, 1974. Submitted by the <br /> Highway Department. Recommended by Finance Committee as it will be <br /> i <br /> replaced by Article 2. <br /> ACTION: Motion duly made and seconded to accept Article 1 as read. <br /> Unanimously voted. <br /> J <br /> Article 2: To see if the Town will vote to transfer the sum of$31,067.00 <br /> from the proceeds received from the State, under provisions of Section 22, <br /> Chapter 1140, Acts of 1973, for the construction of Great Neck Road. Submitted <br /> by the Highway Department. Recommended by Finance Committee to continue <br /> the construction of Great Neck Road. <br /> ACTION: Motion duly made and seconded to accept Article 2 as read. <br /> Unanimously voted. <br /> I <br /> Article 3: To see if the Town will vote to take from available funds <br /> the sum of 9,500.00 to meet the State's share of Chapter 90 Construction. <br /> Submitted by the Highway Department. Recommended by the Finance <br /> Committee as it will be reimbursed to the Town by the Commonwealth. <br /> ACTION: Motion duly made and seconded to accept Article 3 as read. <br /> Unanimously voted. <br /> Article 4: To see if the Town will vote to authorize the hiring of the <br /> existing temporary skilled laborer to permanent status to work for the High- <br /> way Department. Submitted by the Highway Department. Recommended by <br /> the Personnel Board. Not recommended by the Finance Committee as it <br /> is believed that a federally-funded position will be available for this purpose. <br /> ACTION:Article 4 required a two-thirds vote. For 160, opposed 36. <br /> Article 4 tabled. <br /> 40 <br />
