i
i
MASHPEE FIRE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT i
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending December 31, 1975.
The accompanying chart speaks for itself and shows that the total number of
runs has increased from 312 last year to 437 this year. The largest single cat-
egory is for ambulance runs and the total may seem to be way out of proportion
on the surface, but when compared to the total of all other runs which are fire
related it is really not that bad. 211 ambulance runs compared to 226 runs for
fire and fire related runs brings it out to a little less than 50%which I believe is
a little less than a lot of other towns on the Cape.
All of our present equipment is in pretty good condition. I believe we need
and should acquire shortly a new and better equipped ambulance. There are two
other pieces of equipment which would help us to provide better protection and
service, namely a truck to carry rescue tools and service equipment such as
portable lighting etc., and a tank truck to give us more water at the fire scene.
These we had hoped to be able to pick up at one of the surplus equipment outlets
but not have had much luck in that area as yet.
The one great need we still have of course is a new Fire Station, and I'm
sure you are well aware of that, There is no need to talk about new and better
equipment until we are able to provide adequate housing for that equipment.
I would like to thank the many people who have helped to make our task a
little easier including town officials, the Police Department for their help in
emergency situations and the many individual citizens who have helped in so
many ways, such as donations of pieces of equipment for use on the ambu-
lance. I must also thank the other Fire Departments in the area who are always
so ready to help when the need arises.
Respectfully submitted,
William W. Mills
Fire Chief
81
