REPORT OF THE DOG OFFICER
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I herewith submit my report for the Dog Officer Department for the period
from January 1, 1975 to December 11, 1975.
Calls Logged 472
Complaints Investigated 276
Court Cases 2
Dead Dog Complaints 12
Dead Dogs Picked Up 10
Dogs Hit by Cars 15
Dog Bites Reported 13
Dogs Disposed Of 59
Dogs Drowned 0
Dogs Rescued from Ice 0
Dogs Impounded 115
Dogs Restrained 20
Dogs Returned to Owners 84
Lost Dog Complaints 183
Total Miles Recorded 7011
Fines collected and turned
in reimbursement to Town
from County Treasurer
$280.00
The above figures show an overall increase in activity of about 40% over last
year. However, two figures show an even sharper increase, these are: calls
logged up 801/6 and lost dog complaints up 59%. These two figures indicate that
there are many dogs running loose in violation of the towns restraint law. If all
dog owners would only have more consideration for their neighbors and the safety
of their pets by keeping them at home where they belong, many of these problems
would be eliminated. I would like to remind everyone again, there is a year-
round restraint law in effect in Mashpee.
Respectfully submitted,
Daniel W. Dunham
v{M
87
