REPORT OF THE TREE WARDEN
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending 1975:
Last year the Gypsy Moth was conspicuously his absence. I don't mean
to say that there were none at all; for somewhere, I daresay, someone was
bemoaning the fact that they had their share and someone elses' too. But, all
in all, we were blessed with a scarcity of the Gypsy Moth. This doesn't mean
we will continue to enjoy this situation, because somewhere, some one will have
relaxed their vigilance and presto! They are overloaded. This would be all
right if the Gypsy Moth would stay there, but such is not the nature or the life-
style of the beast. A Gypsy Moth, loaded with eggs cannot.fly; but she can
hitch-hike and leave here eggs to reach some far distant shore. They move
out on pleasure cars, trailers, recreational vehicles, airplanes, boats and
what have you, to get to you, the Citizens of the Commonwealth.
The Pine Looper didn't return, for which we can be thankful; but don't
fret, something else will be along to take its place to afflict you and keep your
protests alive.
Respectfully submitted,
i
Stacey Avant
Superintendent of Insect Pest Control
Tree Warden
' J
11E
{r
i
C
i
88
y
