This department, with sufficient
gear. funding, will continue to strive to meet rising challenges,
Through the generosity of Little River Boatyard, we
moved into a small Harbormaster building and were pro- Respectfully submitted,
vided with a slip for the patrol boat. This serves as our
main base of operation on Waquoit Bay. Also thanks to George A. Benway III
New Seabury Corporation, we have a slip on Popponesset Harbormaster
Bay at the New Seabury Marina. Our administrative of-
fice is located in the D.P.W. Building. Here we have our
files and records, as well as a fenced-in area for boats
and equipment. I would like to add that this was all done
"in house" and within budget.
We had a very successful summer with the help of the
Waterways Assistants and Assistant Harbormasters. In
addition to revitalizing the boats, we worked very hard
to provide the boating public with assistance, informa-
tion and guidance. We continually patrolled Popponesset
and Waquoit Bays, as well as the four lakes and ponds.
This winter we have been busy with the Harbor
Management Plan, working closely with the committee
to provide facts and figures,as well as input at numerous
meetings. We have also begun to bring the mooring pro-
blem under control by rasing fees, enforcing By-Laws and
adopting new policies. We hope to get the number of in-
active moorings down, so in the future this will enable
us to issue new moorings in appropriate areas.
FUTURE PROJECTS INCLUDE:
Develop a master dredging plan
Several dredging projects
Improve navigational aids and signs
Develop more "public access"
Put in town moorings
94
