86 <br /> Report of the Principal <br /> To Mr. James F. Peebles, <br /> Superintendent of Schools: <br /> The annual report of the Samuel G. Davis School is <br /> !' herewith submitted. <br /> No greater happiness can come to a principal than <br /> that induced by working with an intelligent, energetic, <br /> self-reliant and loyal teaching staff. The school had one <br /> change in the staff with the retirement of Mrs. Edna <br /> Johnson, an outstanding teacher, and one who in her <br /> long teaching career has lit many candles which in later <br /> years will shine back to cheer her. May her years of <br /> retirement be many and full of the "abundant life" she <br /> spreads wherever she goes. In her place the School <br /> Committee brought to us Miss Sheila Flynn. What she <br /> lacks in experience she makes up in vigorous health, <br /> a love for children, and a desire to do her best in helping <br /> to maintain a good school. <br /> For several years we have been following a plan of <br /> i "continued promotion." This has worked out well in <br /> most cases, for a child is physically and more emotion- <br /> :ally able to succeed in his own age group. Only when <br /> ?the teacher and the principal believe a boy or girl will <br /> profit from another year in the same grade is a child <br /> retained. There are many causes for failure in school. <br /> Immaturity, poor eyesight, inadequate hearing, sickness, <br /> ' inattentiveness due to such causes as broken homes, etc., <br /> are but a few.
