87
cerned would see to it that a small portion of each
evening be set apart for study, the results would be
pleasing both to parents and children.
Children, like adults, want to succeed. No one likes
k
to fail all the time, even though failure is a part of life
and we learn much from our mistakes. A pat on the
back, a word of encouragement, a helping hand, a pleas-
ing smile, a chance to tell what he is doing in his work
will help. To the child, his work is just as important as
dad's. He loves to share his experiences, his successes,
as well as his failures with those whom he loves.
Education is an "ongoing activity;" it doesn't end
at three o'clock each school day. Boys and girls spend
more hours out of school than in it. The attitudes,
habits, and discipline they acquire or develop are largely
a reflection of the environment in which they live. We
as parents and citizens can do much to provide our child-
ren with a wholesome community in which to live.
It was gratifying to have the many interested pa- !
rents and friends visitwith us during "National Educa-
tion Week," to see the special exhibits borrowed from the
Children's Museum of Jamaica Plain, and the work done
by our pupils. We look forward to this annual opportun-
ity when parents and teachers can confer to help cement
a closer relationship between the home and the school.
Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Washington's Birth-
day are other occasions when plays, pageants, and other
assembly programs augment the usual motion pictures,
slide film or other type of cultural assembly for all the .
grades. It is our aim to have as many pupils take part
as possible, and at least once during the year every one
participates.
