97
s
Six children had tonsillectomies at Cape Cod Hos-
pital, three at the rate of $25.00 per child, and the
others at the rate of $50.00 per child, a 100% increase
as of July 1st. We received volunteer help with trans-
portation thru Mrs. Emma Mills. Children now having
tonsil operations must first be examined in the out-
patient department at the hospital as well as by their
own family physicians, so it means three trips to the
hospital for each tonsil case for the person transporting.
With other costs doubling and the cost of living so
high, we are fortunate to have the hot school lunch,
which is so necessary as a health and educational
project.
As we .go to press, we stress the need of several
children for vision and hearing correction. That old
adage, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure," certainly applies to these children. However, we
sympathize greatly with the Town Fathers who try to
foot the cost of corrections only to have some careless
children break or lose their glasses almost immediately.
We feel better parental cooperation is desirable.
Further statistics follow:
59 visits to Town and 849 calls made as follows:
32 Antepartum
43 Postpartum
137 Infants
369 Preschool
114 School children
6 Orthopedic
9 TB service
