39
Report of the Highway Surveyor
Honorable Board of Selectmen
Mashpee, Massachusetts
I herewith submit my annual report as Highway Surveyor
for the year ending December 31, 1952.
Under Chapter 90, the surface on Red Brook Road was
completed from the residence of Mrs. Haynes to the junction
of Great Neck Road and we now have a 24-foot surfaced road
from that point to the Falmouth-Mashpee line. On Great
Neck Road, grading was carried on from the junction of Red
Brook and Great Neck Roads towards Pine Tree Corner for
about one-half mile and 550 feet of mixed-in place surface
constructed. It is planned to continue this work under the
1953 Chapter 90 contract.
Under Chapter 81, the town roads received general main-
tenance care with a considerable amount of gravel being
placed on Orchard Road and surface treatments applied to
sections of the following roads: Booker, Quashnet, Pimlico
Pond, Meeting House, Collins Lane and Great Neck. Due to
the heavy volume of traffic, both army and civilian, going to
South Cape Beach and Popponesset Beach, this latter road
required constant care and patching which is shown in the
amount expended on it.
A breakdown of expenditures shows the following a-
mounts spent on the various roads as follows:
Forestdale Road $360.75
Ashumet Road 14.00
Booker Road 570.33
